Cost of Bowling

How People Become Good at Bowling When it Costs So Much Per Game?

Someone just asked me the other day, "Tim, how do people become good at bowling when it costs so much per game?"

"Cost" is a relative term when it comes to wanting to improve oneself. IOW, consider ANY ACTIVITY/PURUIT YOU PERSONALLY ENJOY? do you find ways of financing it (i.e., budgeting, planning) or do you sort of "try and fit it in when I can" (i.e., "after paying the bills, I guess I can't afford it")?

For me, PERSONALLY, bowling is something I really enjoy doing AND I'm "always trying" to improve my skills. It's also a means of exercise

(have you ever calculated how far you WALK in a typical 3-game league? you'd be amazed!) and social interaction. It's a means of developing

focus, concentration, coordination, rapid "problem solving" skills (i.e., what adjustment do I make now?), and above all, learning how to

BE A GOOD LOSER!

As for "the cost": I've developed a number of good business and personal relationships with center proprietors and Pro Shops that result in my receiving DISCOUNT RATES on lineage and supplies. My only "hitch" is making the time for more practice (i.e., "carving out" from other priorities - work, family, etc.). Otherwise, I don't consider bowling any more expensive than any other sport in terms of equipment and participation.

FInally, consider that one can bowl YEAR-ROUND! what other sport offers that kind of "non-seasonality"? :)

Here are some quick tips on how to save money bowling:

1. Try to find coupons for alleys around you. You can even ask the alleys if they have coupons and how you can obtain them.

2. Join practice leagues, they are usually a LOT cheaper than going to the ally randomly.

3. I personally get my practice free because I coach kids for a local school. Volunteer for something and see if you can make a deal with them.

If you are interesting in learning to be a good bowler quick, I recommend buying the eBook Bowling For Dummies, there is a small price for it, but it's well worth it in my opinion.

Good luck and keep practicing!
